Special days between this year & the next year
A ritual I am doing since several years to welcome the next year ahead
Different cultures have different rituals.
Some might seem weird and strange, others are fun, maybe some are creepy & disturbing, and some we would choose to join even if we never heard of them before.
I love rituals.
I like the word “ritual” also way more than “routine” or “to-do list” or “discipline”. (IF I make to-do-lists, I call them “to-put-energy-into” lists, it makes a difference ;) ).
Especially towards the end of the year and the beginning of the next year there is a certain peacefulness that I appreciate. Everything slows down, I start to get more intentional.
And today, the day of the winter solstice is extra special, because from tomorrow on the sun will be up longer and longer again & the days will become brighter.
In Germanic and Celtic cultures there is this ritual called “Raunachtsritual”, or generally speaking, the term “Rauhnächte” describes the 12 nights between the Winter solstice and the Epiphany (21.12.20xx and 06.01.20xy).
(Raunacht = Rough Night, or 12-Night ritual)
It is said that these 12 days/nights are extra special because “the veil between the worlds is extra thin”, we get the chance to connect deep to the universe, god, source; we can reflect, contemplate & let go of things & share wishes for our future year.
Each one of these Rauhnächte represents one month of the next year, so Raunacht 1 = January etc.
There are many rituals one can do during this phase between the old year and the new year, but a very common one, and the one I do, is the following:
On the day of the Winter solstice (today), you sit down, light a candle, maybe you could meditate a bit, or put some meditation music on, just connecting to yourself.
You take a piece of paper and a pen and start writing 13 wishes you have.
You then fold all these wishes, so you can’t see which one is written on which piece of paper, and you put all of them in a bowl, or a piece of cloth, or a bag.
Then, every night, starting from the 25th of December you pick one folded piece of paper and burn it. Without looking at it.
You do that for 12 nights. By burning your wishes every day, you release them to the Universe and God to take care of.
The last remaining wish is the one for you, that is yours to fulfill. It is kind of your yearly project that you can focus on.
Extra tips: write each wish as if if would be real already, so in the present tense and really feel into it! Try to get the emotions or how you would feel when it is coming true.
You can also journal every day you burn a wish, there are instructions out there, describing what each month of the year is standing for which you could use as guidance. I personally don’t do that, if I feel like writing something, I do it without any instructions.
I usually try to pay extra attention to my dreams, cos I believe the dreamworld is always telling us things ;), and I might write them down actually.
So for today, this was it. I wanted to share this with you because I love to connect to the Universe & God & the greater good around us.
Cos in the end, we are all fluffy soul-balls, floating around in this dimension, while being connected to everything and everyone else in all other dimensions.
So instead of just taking care of our current 3D reality, our work, family, friends and hobbies, I think we can also take care of our soul & its connection to the whole universe.
Doing that with such a cute ritual is quite a nice ritual I think :)
I also wish all of you amazing holidays, the merriest of merry christmases, lots of time to relax, reflect, enjoy, chill & just be!
Love,
Daria
P.S.: Enjoy the “present” moment as much as possible ;)
